Our Journey

SWLF started as a simple idea to connect the practices, exposure and technologies easily available to young people in urban spaces to those in rural and tribal contexts. We started off as an idea-project in 2016 with our four co-founders and 9 interns working in villages in tribal Rajasthan working on students’ capacity building and problem solving. Seeing the response, enthusiasm and potential in students and the wider ecosystem and our own passion, we decided to launch Spinning Wheel as an independent organisations.

Over the years we have learnt, iterated, evolved and adapted into our current forms based on the feedback and demands of our partners and beneficiaries and the developments in the education landscape. We worked closely with local administrations and various non-governmental organisations to learn how best we can deliver programmes that ensure appropriate and sustainable support to young people. Today we work with over 4000 students and hundreds of teachers trying to reimagine what quality education can look like for students living in areas that are among the worst performing on many human development indices. We remain committed to a practice that is scalable but rooted in the voices, needs and aspirations of the people for and with whom it works.
